Students in the Early Childhood Program join Mrs Cogliano on Friday mornings in the studio at the "big school". Together we explore materials, concepts and literature which provide different ways to connect with the natural world and as a means to express themselves through art. We began the year by reading the book, Only One You, by Linda Kranz. The illlustrations are painted rocks and the story is based on words of wisdom for a little fish on his first day of school. Students painted their own rock fish then used paint, scrapers and rollers to create an illustration, and adding their own messages. Next, they constructed 3D giant squid before meeting the author and illustrator of the Giant Squid book. Students went on to explore spirals with different materials including wire, string, and clay. Finally, the group created snowglobes with model magic and an assortment of materials.
